In 2003 I had several songs lying about that were unfinished. The oldest one being "Out In The World" which I remember performing in 1973 at a show opening for Capricorn recording artists White Witch.
I set to work finishing these songs and took them over to Anthony Crawford's studio in West Nashville. I sang and played acoustic guitar. Anthony played all other instruments, something he's very good at. I took a real liking to the end results.
Flying at Night I decided to call it. The collection includes work done with Joey Spampinato and Jon Evans up in Cape Cod on a song called "Belle of Baltimore". It also includes "Never Trust a Man Who Doesn't Drink", which I'd written in 1993 after 28 days in a Tampa rehab center. "Quiet Day" is a description of a typical afternoon in Mississippi right before I went heading off to New York City. Anthony's work on "Dear Angel" was especially good.
