Steve Forbert Reissues Landmark Debut
“Alive On Arrival”
On Dec. 6, 2011,
Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Steve
Forbert will reissue and deluxe-ify
his landmark debut album, “Alive On
Arrival.” The two-disc set will include a
newly remastered version of the original
recording plus a bonus CD of session
outtakes and period live tracks.
Released on
CBS Records in 1978, “Alive On Arrival” was
heralded by fans and critics alike.
Rolling Stone raved that on the album
Forbert “attacked his acoustic guitar
fiercely, took raw, careening harmonica
solos, and sang in a manner nobody had heard
before--hoarse, almost whispering at times,
but with a sure command of texture and
nuance and a sense of high drama.” Paul
Nelson, in the Rolling Stone review
of the record, said that “Nothing in this
world is going to stop Steve Forbert, and on
that I’d bet anything you’d care to wager.”
“An album full
of earnest tunes about loneliness,
self-worth, aspirations and disappointments”
(Allmusic), the record offered a
first look at Forbert’s colorful mix of
spare acoustic introspection and scrappy
rock ‘n’ roll and became one of the year’s
most acclaimed releases.
30-plus years
later, “Alive On Arrival” is still being
lauded as a groundbreaking recording. It
will be one of a handful included in “Please
Allow Me To Introduce Myself,” George
Plasketes’ upcoming book on the best debut
albums of all time.
A member of
the Mississippi Music Hall of Fame since
2006, singer/songwriter Forbert has been a
steady, inventive presence on the music
scene since his ‘arrival.’ Taking the stance
of a compassionate everyman, with a keen eye
for detail, Forbert weaves together strands
of folk, rock, country and R&B as he
delivers his take on life’s trails,
tribulations, and discoveries with direct,
honest energy and enduring optimism. Best
known for his 1980 hit single “Romeo’s
Tune,” he has released fourteen studio
albums, performs over one hundred concerts a
year (songs such as “Goin’ Down To Laurel,”
“What Kinda Guy?” and “You Cannot Win if You
Do Not Play” from his debut are still
staples of the live show) and is currently
in the midst of working on a new record to
be released in 2012.
A variety of
specialty packages will be offered and the
CD will only be for sale on Fobert’s website
